Cards for the game

When playing with 2 to 6 players inclusive, 2 decks of cards are used. For more players, 3 decks are needed, so each deck must have one joker.

Number of decks: 1 – 3
Number of cards in the deck: 52 and one Joker
Number of players: 2 – 10
Card rank: Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King

Cards are dealt clockwise. The number of cards dealt depends on the number of players:
- two players - 10 cards each;
- three or four players - 7 cards each;
- five or six players - 6 cards each.

Once dealt, the remaining cards are placed face down to form a "pot". Its top card is revealed and placed next to it, beginning the “discard” (this card is called “revealed”).

Rules of the game

The rummy game offers a fun experience that requires tactical thinking, analysis and decision making. With its simple rules and opportunities for strategic moves, rummy remains a popular card game among players of all ages.

  • The main goal of the rummy game is to collect sets or sequences of cards of the same suit.

  • Players can draw cards from the deck or select cards from the open deck during their turn. They must then discard one card on their turn. The purpose of card discarding is to get rid of unnecessary cards and create new opportunities for play

  • Players can also use cards discarded by other players if those cards allow them to create combinations. This adds a strategic element to the game, as players may be forced to decide whether they should discard cards that may be useful to other players.

  • The game continues until one player gets rid of all his cards. At this point, the remaining players are awarded penalty points for undisclosed combinations and remaining cards in their hands. The player with the fewest penalty points is declared the winner.

Rummy field

The game area is organized into distinct sections:

- The top zone consists of the deck of cards (placed face up) and the discard pile (placed face down).
- The central zone is dedicated to laying out combinations of cards in play.
- The bottom zone displays your own cards (face up) along with a timer that indicates the remaining time for your turn.
- On the right and left sides, you'll find avatars of your opponents and their cards (face down). When it's your opponents' turn, a countdown timer will appear next to their avatars.

Below is an example of how the online rummy game field may appear for a game involving three players:

Сost of cards

The scoring system in Rummy is straightforward. After the first player completes the game, the remaining players tally up the points from the cards in their hands.

The scoring follows a simple rule:

1) Face cards (queen, jack, king) are worth ten points each.
2) All numerical cards are equal to their face value (for instance, a two is worth 2 points, a three is worth 3 points).

3) Aces can be valued at either one point or eleven points, depending on the context.

4) The joker's point value is situation-dependent and can range from 1 to 20 points.

Card combinations: groups and rows

Row

A row is a set of 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit. An Ace is both a low and a high card. The next card after the Ace is the 2 and the Ace is the next card after the King. For example: A♥2♥3♥4♥5♥6♥ or Q♣K♣A♣

img
Group

A group is a set of 3 or more cards of the same value. The suit of the cards does not matter. For example: 4♥ 4♦ 4♠ or K♥ K♦ K♠ K♣

The player announces his combinations and places them on the table; several combinations can be placed at once. He can make an announcement after he takes a card from the pile, but before he discards the extra card. At the same time, the player can add one (or more) cards to the combinations on the playing field announced by himself or other players. Combinations remain on the table until the end of the game.

Convenient JOKER card

The Joker is a versatile card because it replaces any missing card in a group or row.
For example, if you have two consecutive cards of the same suit, you can use the Joker card to lay out the row: 2♥ 3♥ 4♥ Joker 6♥.
Or to form a group: K♥ K♦ Joker.
A very important point: A joker placed on the table can be replaced with the card it replaces.

Proper use of the Joker card can significantly increase your chances of winning.
Here are some basic rules for using this versatile card effectively:
1 - Use the joker to make combinations with high value cards. This strategy will help you reduce the number of points in your hand.
2 - Use jokers early in the game to gain an advantage.
3 - Break your opponents' combinations: If you notice that your opponent is close to making a combination, break their sequence with the help of a joker.

Scoring

As soon as one of the players gets rid of their cards, points are counted. Each player writes down the total amount of cards he has left as a minus, and the winner writes down the total amount of all remaining cards from all players as a plus.

After playing a certain number of rounds, points are counted and a winner is determined. The winner of the game is the player who first scores a predetermined number of points.

If a player announces all card combinations in one go, his winnings are doubled. Finishing the game in one go by laying out or laying down all the cards is called Rummy.

Each card has its own value (points), which are awarded at the end of the game for the remaining cards in the player’s hands:

Rank card Cost in points
From 2 to 9 is equal to rank (2 points, 3 points, ..., 9 points)
10, Jack, Queen, King 10 ponts
Ace 11 points
Joker 20 points
